Daniel Auteuil writes and directs this French romantic drama adapted from the second play in Marcel Pagnol's 'Marseilles Trilogy'. Set in the 1920s, the film also sees Auteuil star as César Olivier, the owner of a bar in the Old Port of Marseille. His son Marius (Raphaël Personnaz) has set sail on a five-year journey, leaving behind his love, shellfish salesgirl Fanny (Victoire Bélézy). But when Fanny realises she is pregnant with Marius's baby, César arranges for her to marry his friend Panisse (Jean-Pierre Darroussin), a wealthly, older gentleman. Fanny acquiesces, hoping for a better life for her and her child. Meanwhile, with his feelings for Fanny as strong as ever, Marius returns home...
