Lucia Lucas revels in her position of Queen of Riseholme. However, when her husband Peppino's cantankerous elderly Auntie Amy finally shuffles off this mortal coil, the couple comes into a substantial inheritance - including a London house. Delighted at the prospect of a City second home, Lucia proceeds to establish a luxurious retreat there, and is soon ingratiating herself into London society. But Riseholme does not take kindly to being snubbed, and soon Lucia is fighting on two fronts - clawing her way up through the social ranks in Town, and maintaining her sovereignty back in the village.
