The first line of what was to become a 270-station underground railway opened on 10 January 1863 and London Transport, created by Act of Parliament, commenced operations on 1 July 1933. The 20 years between 1963 and 1983 span the centenary of the underground railway in London and the Golden Jubilee of the foundation of London Transport. John Glover photographed extensively this 20-year period in London Underground, bringing the best together in this book to include the opening of the Victoria line (1968-72), the extension of the Piccadilly line to Heathrow (1977), the establishment of the Jubilee line to Charing Cross and its separation from the Bakerloo (1979), opening of the London Transport Museum at Covent Carden (1980), the withdrawal of Bakerloo services Stonebridge Park to Watford Junction (1982) and the exhibition held at Acton Works to mark the Golden Jubilee of what was by now London Underground Ltd.
