An unhallowed grave

Ellis, Kate, 1953-2011
Books
One summer's night, the body of a woman is discovered hanging from a tree in a Devon graveyard. Although the scene is made to look like suicide, DS Wesley Peterson knows from examining Pauline Brent's body that this was murder. History provides Wesley with a clue in the case when his friend, archaeologist Neil Watson, makes a discovery at his nearby dig. Neil excavates the corpse of a young woman who, according to local legend, had been publicly hanged from the very same tree five centuries ago. Wesley is forced to consider the possibility that Pauline Brent's killer knows this sinister history and that, just like the legend, her death was a carefully planned execution. But, if so, for what crime?
