Benjamin Britten's first full-length opera, performed by the Royal Opera House Chorus and Orchestra in 1981. In 1830, introverted fisherman Peter Grimes plies his trade on the bleak East England coast, fitting awkwardly with the tight-knit and pious community around him. After he loses an apprentice at sea, the villagers' uneasiness towards him turns inexorably to wrath, with only the widowed schoolmistress Ellen Orford offering him support.
