Three-part British drama based on the novel by H.G. Wells. Set in Edwardian England, journalist George (Rafe Spall) and his wife Amy (Eleanor Tomlinson) are settling in to their new life in Woking, away from society that frowns upon their marriage. With George already having a wife, albeit one who refuses to grant him a divorce, the couple become the topic of a conversation they prefer to avoid. When Amy's boss, scientist Ogilvy (Robert Carlyle) reveals that planet Earth may be under attack from Martian aliens, their previous problems look set to fade into obscurity as their lives now revolve around saving the world.
