[This is view looking west towards Thames Street, Hampton taken from outside the walls of Garrick’s Villa, Hampton Court Road, on the right.
The dominant portico and bollards on the right protect the pedestrian entrance through the wall into the grounds of Garrick’s Villa; the curve of the carriage entrance can be seen just beyond it.
The buildings just beyond on the left, together with the portico and wall were demolished in 1902 by London United Tramways, who had purchased the Garrick’s Villa estate in order to widen the road by 20’ to accommodate double tram tracks along Hampton Court Road. The buildings lost by demolition included a shop and the ‘William IV’ public house on the corner with Church Street.]
