Dora is waiting for some money from Charles to arrive. Her attempts to work again have been unsuccessful. The letter reads:'I received your letter saying you would send me some money and I have been looking for it every day. Will you try and send as much as you can by return of post as I am in great need of it. I owe a good deal for Marion and myself. I have left The Baltic as they have got another girl whilst I was away ill but I may get back again soon. I went to the "Crown Hotel" Newcastle on Monday, but I left again yesterday. The hours were so long and such horrid food and a garret with a sky light to sleep in. I felt so ill yesterday so I went off duty and packed my box and told the manager I was going. I knew they had no right to stop me as I took no ____ so they took away my box and would not give it me. I immediately sent for a "bobby" and two came and soon made them give it up. Marion has been very ill again but is better now. Do answer this as soon as you can. I promise never to threaten or try to do you any harm again no matter what happens I will never cause you any more trouble. Forgive me for all I have done and believe me to be your well wishing Dolly.'
