General notes:
Orleans County Secondary School opened in 1914 in Napoleon Road, Twickenham. In 1961 the school acquired the site of the Exiles Football Ground in Richmond Road for a sports field. In 1972 the Local Education Authority for the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames adopted the Comprehensive education system, and as a flagship aspect of this undertaking it was decided that Orleans, because of its central location in the Borough, should be rebuilt and expanded. The sports field on Richmond Road, Twickenham, was chosen as the site for the new building. The school was reopened on the new site in 1976, and was the Borough's first purpose-built comprehensive school.
